Students’ Perception of the Educational Environment at Hawler College of Medicine, Erbil, Iraq

BACKGROUND: Medical education and training vary considerably across the world. Various teaching methodologies have been adopted in medical education. AIM: This study aimed to elicit perception of students at Hawler College Medicine about their educational environment. METHODS: The participants included all 152 final year Medicine, Erbil, Iraq. An anonymous questionnaire containing 27 items quality education, preparedness for residency, students’ affairs, behaviors experienced or witnessed during school with a five-point Likert scale was used data collection. Statistical Package Social Sciences program analysis. RESULTS: Of 140 participated study, 73 (52.1%) said that helpful preparation 67 (47.8%) were satisfied 65 (46.4%) basic science coursework had sufficient illustrations clinical relevance. Overall mostly dissatisfied relaxation spaces, space, health services, response problems. Fifty-six (40%) frequently publicly embarrassed, 45 (32.1%) believed they received lower evaluations grades solely based on gender rather than performance, (19.1%) denied opportunities rewards gender. CONCLUSIONS: Most but unsatisfied services college.
